The Way To Life And Immortality By R. Swinburne Clymer

The Way to Life and Immortality is a seminal exploration of esoteric philosophy and the ancient doctrines of physical immortality. Drawing upon the wisdom of the New Testament, as well as Hermetic texts, Clymer articulates a bold thesis: that humanity holds within itself the potential to transcend mortality, not symbolically, but literally—achieving immortality in the physical form. For the serious student of esotericism, it offers not mere speculation, but a roadmap toward Ultimate Freedom.

Reuben Swinburne Clymer was an American occultist and modern Rosicrucian Supreme Grand Master of the FRC, perhaps the oldest continuing Rosicrucian organization in the Americas. He is one of my personal favorites for he represents a lot of the same beliefs that I have. He was very holistic and went against the grain in his approach to diet, medicine, and overall well-being and therefore, received a vast amount of criticism from the American Medical Association or A.M.A. He had beef with Lewis and A.M.O.R.C. because Lewis plagiarized many of his titles and also because of his ties with Master Therion.

At the heart of early 20th-century occultism stood two towering, opposing figures: Swinburne Clymer, Rosicrucian mystic and moralist, and Aleister Crowley, self-proclaimed prophet of Thelema and iconoclast. Their clash was not merely personal—it symbolized a deeper ideological divide within the Western esoteric tradition. Clymer championed spiritual purity, disciplined self-mastery, and a path toward immortality grounded in moral rectitude and ancient Rosicrucian principles. Crowley, by contrast, embodied radical individualism, sexual magic, and a philosophy of “Do what thou wilt.” Their parallel quests for esoteric authority often led to direct conflict, as each vied to define the true inheritance of the Mysteries. Theirs was not just a battle of personalities, but a profound struggle over the soul of modern occultism—between order and chaos, asceticism and libertinism, tradition and transgression
